History

Magnetic fields have been used for a variety of therapies since the dawn of mankind. In the early twentieth century a number of devices were patented which relied on magnetism to provide therapeutic benefits. Despite early skepticism from the established medical groups, the 1990's saw an increasingly sophisticated group of people interested in alternative therapies turn to magnetic devices for a variety of problems including healing fractures, healing soft tissue, reducing pain from headaches, backaches, sore muscles and strained tendons.

Electric fields and weak currents have been used by chiropractors and some alternative medicine buffs throughout the twentieth century. The effect of the weak electric fields for beneficial nerve and muscle stimulation is well understood. However, the mechanics of interaction with the various molecular entities within the body is not understood.

The most recent entry into the field of alternative therapy applications is the pulsed magnetic field. In many pain reduction applications people report that the pulsed magnetic field provides relief after a few short applications. Some people have reported a healing of epithelial carcinoma; some have been "cured" of rheumatoid arthritis; some have had "miraculous" healing of shattered bones. Many have just felt that they had benefited from the use of the pulsed magnetic field without pointing to a specific ailment.
